Blog #10: Viral Marketing

With viral marketing making its big debut in the 1970s, there have now been decades for its improvement. There are so many ways to spread news about something going on in one community and this article describes three types of messengers: market mavens, social hubs, and salespeople. Out of all of these messengers, the most efficient way to spread news has to be the social hub. With this type of messenger having the largest social connection among the three, information definitely spreads fast between these large social groups. They end up having the most power since there are so many people to get the word out to. This article digs deep into the methods of how to properly promote and market something starting with participation and polling services which starts to share the information with people in that area. And after this, viral marketing starts to involve different technological methods like commercials and ads that, in the end, are supposed to be efficient ways of marketing. One of the many examples that stood out to me in this article would have to be Hotmail's tagline "get your free email at Hotmail", which is a slogan that a person only needs to hear once to remember forever. Promotion like this is viral marketing done right. In all, this article shares some great information about viral marketing that I did not even know existed and I will definitely give it another read if I am ever trying to prmote something.
